Newest ICBF Wait List

I have preempted the original post for today -- You can look forward to souvenir suggestions on Monday. The most recent Wait List was published by ICBF on June 18, 2009. The ICBF Wait List applies to adoptions through ICBF only -- not through CASAS PRIVADAS. This list DOES NOT reflect special needs children. The definition of special needs are children with disabilities, children over 8 years of age, and sibling groups of 3 or more. There also has been movement in many categories, all dates that have advanced I am putting in BOLD and RED. Also, this list only reflects that there are no more dossiers at the national office prior to the date shown. Dossiers from Nov 2005 in the 0-12 months category, for example, may still need a referral, but they have already been sent to a region and are no longer at the national office.

Do you know how this list is treated for Afro-Colombian children? Is it the same timing?

In the past, there was a special wait list for Afro-colombian. However, I was told that 1 1/2 years ago this practtice was abolished. You should confirm this with either your agency or lawyer.

It is usually updated every 3 months, though it has only been recently that they have been very consistent. I am expecting a new list in Sept.

You are so great to help keep folks informed! I appreciate the disclaimer about the list-- that it doesn't include the wait for adoptive parents who go through the private orphanages, or are seeking special needs, etc.
However, I saw recently where at least two families seeking sibs 0-6 whose files were approved in Dec 2007 already have their kids or were sent to a region---one family was French--the other from the US--and their kids were not special needs. This wait list says that ICBF is only on Aug 2007 for sibs of 2. So maybe it's off by several months? What other reason could there be for this?

Most Common Last Names in Colombia

According to the Registraduria Nacional del Estado Civil in Colombia, the most common last names in Colombia in 2010 were the following. Rodríguez Gómez González Martínez García López Hernández Sánchez Ramírez Pérez Días Muñoz Rojas Moreno Jiménez While this is a list that covers all of Colombia, there are some regional differences. In Antioquia, the last names Restrepo, Zapata y Álvarez are the 2nd, 3rd, and 4th most common names and Montoya 8th, while they are not even in the top 10 in Bogotá, Cali or Barranquilla. The last name Castro is the 10th most popular last name in Barranquilla, however, is it not in the top ten of any other major city's list. Additionally, in Cali, the last name Valencia is in 7th place, while it also does not appear on any other city's list.

La Madremonte

The myth of the Madremonte (Mother Mountain), and I do say myth though many campesinos in Colombia believe in her today, has it's roots in the indigenous cultures of Colombia and is known throughout much of Colombia including Antioquia, Caldas, Arauca, Caqueta, Amazonas, Guainia, and perhaps more departments.
